The Navigator 48 Celestial Gyro is the first Celestial
Heading System for the Maritime Industry that outperforms the Gyro Compass.
Attitude is the technical term - one tenth of a degree of continuous
heading accuracy at any latitude is the result. All of it using passive
GPS receiving technology with no moving parts.
The size, weight, and performance for heading and rate
information has not been seen on any except the most sophisticated fighter
aircraft, but now is available in the Navigator 48 Celestial Navigation
System.
The main limitations in making this the reality it is
today have been computation time and the ability of the system to crunch
the numbers supplied by 4 12-channel receivers which were tracking the
same satellites simultaneously. The breakthrough has been made, and the
results will make a single shipboard celestial navigator platform, The
Navigator 48, the standard for vessel Position, Speed, and Heading anywhere
in the world.
